Day 8 – The beginning

They blamed me for leaving the door open again. I swear it wasn’t me. I always lock the door after I come in. My roommates were bugging’. I decided that today is the day that I actually leave the door open to prove a point. They’re so caught up that something is about to happen to them. What are the odds? Right before I left to work, I kept the door unlocked and left. I realized 20 minutes in my car ride to work what I had done, I had to get back before they realized it was actually unlocked. Such a stupid point to prove. I decided that I would go on my first break at work before anyone got up and I would unlock the door.

Once my break hit, I hurried to my car and rushed home. I approached the house and could’ve sworn the door was partially opened. As I got closer to the door, it slowly crept open. Something didn’t feel right. I stood at the entrance, debating whether to enter my own home. I walked in and realized it was DEAD silent. What I entered was a slaughterhouse crime scene. Each of my roommates have been slain and slashed, leaving me in shock with my first instinct of flight. As soon I turned around to the leave the house to run for safety, it was written in blood across the top of the door, “don’t forget to lock the door”.

Day 8 – The beginning

Day 4- Vacancy

Two shot glasses clinked together and whiskey splashed out the sides. “Cheers fucker!” Shouted Jayce. It was another celebratory Friday; every Friday was a day to celebrate. Nothing like bringing the weekend in and ending hard work over some cold brews and strong whiskey! “Another round!” Chance demanded the bartender at Rusty Saloon. “Bro?! Another one?” Jayce asked knowing he wasn’t going to refuse another shot. These brothers worked hard and partied harder right on the borderline of the Northern Cheyenne Rez. Chance responded “Yeah and another round for the bar!” the rowdy Rusty Saloon crowd cheered as they anticipated their next beers.

The crowd died down and Jayce and Chance ended the night buzzing off their asses. They decided to get on the road. Rock paper scissoring at the car door. Jayce won and Chance wined in defeat as he had to drive home. Drunk driving wasn’t common, it’s just this time the sober driver that usually shuttles the Rusty Saloon’s clientele was out sick that night. But it’s not like they haven’t done it before, they went into the bar thinking they would have a DD. Chance got in the driver seat and Jayce buckled in on the passenger’s side. Chance wasn’t chancing any reckless driving. He kept his composure as it was a 20-mile ride home on roads that were 55mph. He decided to drive at 25 mph.

“Hurry up fucker! I’m tired”

“You drive then!”

“No, no,no, you’re doin’ goot!”

The two bickered.

Chance got to the point where he was seeing double vision and with 15 miles to go he didn’t want to risk it. “I’m gonna pull over by Crazy heads, we’ll just pass out until I sober up” They pulled over at a familiar secluded lake that usually was a place to hang out and swim during the day. It was fall though, so the lake was isolated. No one every really goes there once Summer left. Chance pulled his seat back and begin to doze off in sleep. Jayce got in the back and passed out.

Ch ch ch ch ch ch . A sound started to creep.

Ch ch ch Ch. Heavy feet started dragging

CH CH CH CH CH CH!  The sound grew insidious and Chance woke up from how cold it gets in the fall nights. Reaching down to 30 degree in the fall months. He looked around, the whole area was covered in black and the moonlight wasn’t enough to light up the forest. CH CH CH CH CH. Chance looked around to see where the sound was coming from. It reminded him of his dad’s heavy feet walking across the creaky wood floors at night. He started to feel the hairs on his neck stand up, he felt a presence near. He laid back down and felt a dark shadow at the back-seat window right above Jayce’s head. The dark shadow peeked in with red glowing eyes. The shadow’s head tilted back and forth examining a sleeping Jayce. “Jayce…” Chance whispered “Jaaaaaayyyccce……” The shadow imitated and looked up at Chance. Chance turned away and pretended to sleep. The figure ch ch ch ch towards Chance’s window. He felt the red glowing eyes gazing at him. Now all the hairs on Chance’s body stood straight up. “Jayce…” Chance continued to whisper, “Jayce wake up, man…” “Jayyyccceee, wake up….” The figure imitated Chance again.

After what felt like hours, the figure ch ch ch ch’ed away into the darkness. Chance laid frozen in shock of what he might’ve witnessed. He looked at the doors and realized they weren’t locked and frantically pressed the cars doors. He couldn’t go back to sleep after that. He stayed up until the birds started chirping. Jayce finally woke up and breathe out the condensation that always indicated how cold it really was. “Fuck, I’m cold! You sober now? I’ll drive us home, watch out!” Jayce declared. Chance laid frozen stiff. “Move!” Jayce tried to get Chance out of the driver seat. “Whoa, what’s wrong with you? You look like you seen a ghost!”
